EXAMS

Travel fee is additional to all exams. ($50 Mobile County, $100 Baldwin County)

Wellness Exam  $125

A wellness or "annual" exam is a complete check-up for your cat. We can discuss general concerns about health, diet, behavior etc. Preventative care will be discussed and individualized recommendations will be made based on current evidence-based best practices and your cat's unique needs. A typical visit is approximately 1 hour and includes a detailed follow up e-mail with recommendations and resources.

Urgent Exam  $200

For non-emergent illnesses, examples include ear infections, abscesses, diarrhea, sneezing, etc we have limited availability for same day or urgent visits. Travel fee is additional. Not appropriate for life-threatening conditions such as difficulty breathing, unable to urinate, severe vomiting, collapsed, etc., as we can not treat emergencies.

Recheck Exam (in person or telehealth)  $50

Most chronic conditions require time and commitment to manage or cure, and recheck exam and testing is often required. During a recheck exam in person, your cat will be evaluated for response to treatment and any needed lab work will be performed. These visits are typically 15 to 30 minutes.

Sometimes a recheck is appropriate to be managed with a telehealth visit over Zoom. This is typically a 15 to 30 minute conversation during which you can share videos or photos of your pet and we can discuss ongoing recommendations.  Travel fee is waived for telehealth.

VACCINATIONS

House Calls for Cats strongly believes that vaccination is one of the safest and most effective ways to prevent many serious or deadly illnesses, such as rabies and panleukopenia. Fortunately, recent science shows that duration of immunity from these vaccines is often many years. Because there is a small risk of adverse effects from vaccines, we believe it is in the best interest of your cat to administer vaccinations as infrequently as possible. Vaccine reactions are generally mild, however some cats develop chronic inflammation, and a small proportion develop injection site sarcomas (an aggressive cancer). For this reason we use only adjuvant free PureVax (TM) vaccines, which cause less inflammation and are thought tot decrease the risk of sarcomas by roughly 10 fold. Though PureVax vaccines cost more than typical inoculations, we believe it is justified by the enormous benefit of a decreased cancer risk. To further reduce risk of injection site sarcomas, we also offer FVRCP intra-nasal vaccine boosters for adult cats (no injection means no sarcomas).

See below for detailed vaccine recommendations and pricing based on age and lifestyle.

Rabies vaccine:  $25 kitten (lasts 1 year) $50 adult (lasts 3 years)

Rabies is a 100% deadly virus spread by bites from infected animals. Because of the risk to human life and lack of any treatment, state law requires vaccination of all cats. The first vaccine is given at 3 or 4 months of age, and the next booster must be given 1 year later. After that, vaccination is legally required every 3 years.

Feline FVRCP 4 "feline distemper shot" $25

A combination vaccine which protects against several serious contagious diseases : panleukopenia (feline distemper), calicivirus, rhinovirus, and chlamydia.  Recommended for all kittens starting after 6 weeks old, repeated every 2 to 4 weeks until after 16 weeks of age, then again after 1 year of age. May need boosters depending on risk.

Intra-nasal FVRCP  $12

An intra-nasal booster of the combination vaccine which protects against several serious contagious diseases : panleukopenia (feline distemper), calicivirus, rhinovirus, and chlamydia. Intra-nasal administration provides rapid immunity and avoids risk of injection site reactions. Recommended for cats going into high stress situations such as boarding, or with extensive contact with other cats such as outdoor cats who roam.

Feline Leukemia Virus $25

Protects against deadly feline leukemia virus. Recommended for all kittens after 8 weeks of age as an 2 shot series (initial, then booster 2 weeks later). Not recommended annually for adult indoor cats with previous vaccination.
